Management

‍David N. Black, a co-founder and the Chief Executive Officer of Vertoil Holdings, LLC.  Mr. Black has over 30 years of corporate and project development and management experience.  Prior to founding Vertoil, Mr. Black was a co-founder and CEO of ASAlliances Biofuels, LLC (ethanol production company sold to a NYSE-listed company for $725 million) and co-founder and managing director of Gevo Development, LLC (renewable chemical production company valued at $425 million IPO).  Prior to entering industrial development in 2004, Mr. Black was a partner with Deloitte & Touche for eight years and served as the co-head of the national corporate finance management consulting practice.  Mr. Black was a chartered financial analyst, a certified public accountant, and was registered with the NASD with series 7, 63, and 24 security licenses.Mr. Black pearned his (i) Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Arizona State University, where he was an All-American swimmer, and (ii) Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University.



‍Thomas G. Murray, a co-founder and the Chief Technology Officer of Vertoil Holdings, LLC. Mr. Murray has over 35 years of technology and project development and senior management experience.  Mr. Murray is the inventor and patent holder of numerous technologies for the upgrading of used lubricating oil to marine gas oil and group III base oil, including the technology to be deployed by Vertoil.  In addition, Mr. Murray is a frequent speaker and columnist regarding the implications and opportunities of IMO 2020.  Prior to founding Vertoil, Mr. Murray was the co-founder of numerous technology companies focused on the used lubricating industry, including Probex, a used oil re-refining company that secured $14 million of funding and two patents.  Mr. Murray earned his (i) Bachelor of Arts degree in economics, with honors, from Holy Cross College, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and (ii) Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

‍Michael A. Slaney, a co-founder and the Chief Commercial Officer of Vertoil Holdings, LLC.  Mr. Slaney has over 30 years of corporate and project development, legal, and investment banking experience.  Prior to founding Vertoil, Mr. Slaney was a co-founder and managing partner of numerous industrial platform companies, including Gevo Development, LLC (renewable chemical production company valued at $425 million IPO) and ASAlliances Biofuels LLC (ethanol production company sold to a NYSE-listed company for $725 million).  Prior to entering industrial development in 2004, Mr. Slaney was a partner in the corporate section of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP, where he specialized in M&A and joint ventures and completed transactions valued at more than $23 billion.  Prior to practicing law, Mr. Slaney was an analyst at the investment banking firm of Kidder, Peabody & Co. and an accountant at KPMG LLP.  Mr. Slaney was a certified public accountant, held series 7 and 63 NASD security licenses, and was licensed to practice law in two states.  Mr. Slaney earned his (i) Bachelor of Science degree in both Accounting and Business Administration in 1986 from the University of Kansas, where he was the student body senior class president, and (ii) Jurist Doctorate, with honors, from Indiana University in 1992.
